Priest Killer Kachina

from 100.00

Kachina (aka, Katsina) dolls were used to teach young Hopi Indians about the immortal beings who controlled the natural world. In the 1600s, Pueblo Indians in New Mexico/Arizona revolted against religious oppression by the Catholic Church and there's a legend that a Hopi named Yowe (aka, Yo-we) beheaded a Franciscan priest in protest, thereby solidifying his position in that culture as an Ogre Kachina, also known as the "Priest Killer," imbued with the power to punish.

Canvas Prints

The ready-to-hang Black Ogre Kachina canvas prints are produced with archival ink on museum-grade, gallery-wrapped canvas and extend 1.25 inches off the wall, so there's no need for a frame. There are several sizes available and each limited-edition giclee is signed and numbered out of only 40 Artist Proofs. Please allow up to three weeks for delivery of canvas prints, as they are custom-built at the time the order is placed.
