This piece was the brain child of one of my collectors. I was doing a meet and greet in Vegas back in spring 2017 when I started to discuss the new Rogue series I was starting and how the concept was to be music influenced but not actual icon portraits. He asked if I would ever consider doing a literal still life interpretation of Guns N’ Roses. I was genuinely intrigued, however, I had so many ideas in my queue that it was filed into the back of my mind to be explored in the future.
In August, the GNR “Not in This Lifetime” tour was in full swing across Canada and was scheduled to make a stadium appearance in my hometown. GNR fever was in full bloom and I too was caught up in it. This is when the idea started to percolate once again.
The gun style was conflicting for me, but once GNR broke into a cover of Speak Softly Love (love theme from The Godfather), the pieces started to fall into place and, for the first time, I saw a romance within the imagery of these weapons accompanied by the roses.
