I should have known that Motley was going to have a large impact on my life. It’s the only band that I can recall not only where and when I first heard them, but the actual first line or lyric I heard. When I first heard Vince’s voice while simultaneously gazing at the cassette case of Shout at the Devil I knew I was being transported into a strange and exciting new world and it has effected who I am to this very day. Careful consideration and calculated decisions went into how I wanted to portray Vince as this is part two of a four part series and I needed to stay true to the concept of the four pieces displayed side by side while still making it a viable option for those who just wanted a piece of Vince. The countless hours of listening to Motley this piece afforded me (while no doubt pissing off the neighbours) reminded me how remarkable Vince’s rock n roll scream was and how it guided us into a new decade and ultimately a new genre of music, and for me it all started with the line – “He’s the wolf screaming lonely in the night”.
