Usually when I tackle a subject I end up with numerous concept ideas. Sometimes the piece is actually more about the concept than the subject and sometimes it’s vice versa. There are many cases where the concepts that were left undone end up haunting me – this would be one of those cases. I’ve mentioned in the past that DJ Ashba and Marilyn Manson are two of the most fun people to paint. Their unique style coupled with the tattoos and trade mark appearances truly personify rock and roll. After completing the first Ashba which focused on the concept of raven skeletons accompanying DJ on the guitar, I immediately started thinking of a more portrait style piece. This desire received a kick in the ass upon the release of Sixx AM’s new album and more specifically the song that lead to the title – “Stars”.
