I had a musician friend tell me once when referring to writing songs, “sometimes you feel like you just wrote ‘Let It Be’ only to have it turn on you in post production”. That pretty much exemplifies the first Depeche Mode painting I did a few years back – after I shipped it, it turned on me and I’ve never felt comfortable with it. I’ve been biding my time since then to try and recapture the magic of a Depeche Mode life performance. Their mix of dance, rock and synth music coupled with a very sexual overtone really make them a great subject. As mentioned previously, I would be hard pressed to find another band that was more influential to me during my high school years, and just hearing the iconic line “reach out and touch faith” immediately transports me back into the driver seat of my 69’ VW Bus.
