"My first gallery art show was in 2012. The first person to walk into the gallery that day saw the collection of music icons and immediately asked, “have you done a Rush piece?” This was certainly a sign of things to come and over the last eight years I cannot think of a band that has been requested more than this Canadian trio.
Admittedly, Rush is one of those bands that slipped through my fingers. I never knew too much about them or followed their career that closely. I knew they had a huge cult like following and I knew that drummer Neil Peart was in the upper echelon of drummers, and of course I knew the hits, but that was the extent of it. Unfortunately, it was not until after Neil Peart’s passing that I started to understand the gravitas of not only the band, but the influence Neil had on some of the world’s most renowned drummers.
The concept of a snare drum and flame had been floating around in my brain for a few years and I originally had it marked for Dany Carey of Tool, but after countless social media posts and articles containing anecdotes and tributes from some of the biggest rock stars on the planet, I knew that the concept was a perfect fit for Mr. Peart.
