When you combine a musician, visual artist, performance artist and intellectual eclectic person – you end up with someone like David freakin’ Bowie. Bowie’s different personae and radical style shifts span over the course of four decades and show no signs of letting up. Credited with inventing “Glam Rock” during the early 70’s with his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, he challenged the core belief of rock music and in doing so, has created a cult following like none other. I believe his use of theatrics, makeup and costumes during his live shows, paved the way for bands such as Kiss, Motley Crue and Marilyn Manson. When I decided to embark on a Bowie piece, no other era or persona even crossed my mind – I was doing Ziggy.
