When I decided to embark on a Randy Rhoads piece I posted a simple Polka Dotted Flying V guitar with the caption “coming soon”. My girlfriend stated that it was a very ambiguous post – and I responded with “those who know will know”. That statement is fitting on so many levels with Randy Rhoads, and immediately I was receiving responses that showed the excitement and admiration for this legendary guitarist. Randy was only in the spotlight for a few short years before he died in a tragic plane accident but those few years was all he needed to reach legendary status among guitar players. In a strange act of serendipity, the day after I started this piece, my social media was filled with tributes and accolades – it was the anniversary if his untimely death. Those posts from some of my favorite guitar players such as Tom Morello (RageAgainsttheMachine) and D.j. Ashba (Sixx:A.M.) reconfirmed the contribution and influence Randy has on rock guitarists to this day.
