I once heard that to trace the roots of your favorite music, you should listen to the music your favorite bands listen too. I took this advice and explored some of the Rhythm and Blues that influenced the Stones. That exercise lead to a head on collision with Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and the incomparable “Godfather of Soul”, Mr. James Freakin’ Brown. Everyone knows who this founding father of funk is, but even I was taken back when I started to research this project. The hours of video I watched not only reacquainted me to this icon, but helped me realize how much of a total entertainer he was. I try to stay away from generational music debates and keep an open mind to contemporary music and musicians, however you would be hard pressed to find anyone around today that could entertain like this cat did….. “Super Bad” indeed Mr. Brown!!
