I have stated in the past that Steven Tyler and Slash were the embodiment of rock n’ roll. Nikki is well deserving of that accolade as well – albeit with a lot more edge, both literally and figuratively (I’m sure the aforementioned don’t carry a blade around with them daily as Nikki does). I have also always been somewhat fascinated with Nikki’s style. If I had to describe it, I would say that over the years it has blurred the lines between rock, metal, punk, glam and post apocalyptic.

The inspiration for this piece was simple. I had my music catalog on shuffle when it played a somewhat deeper cut on the Shout at The Devilalbum called “Knock Em’ Dead Kid”. The song instantly transported me back to my childhood. I grew up in a pretty rough neighbourhood and school yard scraps seemed to be a daily occurrence. This song took on anthem status and always resonated with me for this reason. A few months back when I reconnected with this song, the lyric “star spangled fight” coupled with the thought of Nikki’s star tattooed knuckles was too serendipitous to pass up.
